PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The bear appeared at the end of Thursday’s trading session at the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. The Mauritius official market equity market capitalization ended at MUR 209.877 billion after dropping MUR 278 million (about US$7.7 million) compared to the previous market capitalization of MUR 210.155 billion.
In the same bearish mood, the Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) sagged by 0.13 percent or 2.49 points to close at 1,884,62 and SEM10 index advanced by 0.13 percent or 0.48 points to close at 363.05 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 3,497,515 (a fall relatively to the volume of 20,011,793 recorded at the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 58.572 million (an increase relatively to MUR 53.056 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 1,362,200 (about 38.9 percent of total volume) at MUR 1.090 million and New Mauritius Hotels registered 1,327,264 traded stocks amounted to MUR 23.892 million. Mauritius Development Investment Trust Limited had 245,012 at MUR 1.219 million and Ireland Blyth recorded a total volume of 140,205 shares at MUR 15.213. LOTTOTECH Limited also recorded 120,860 shares at MUR 392,924.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 26 traded securities there were 4 price gainers and 10 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended in the negative region. CMPL climbed by 5.00 percent to end at MUR 14.70, Rogers & Co Limited gained 1.67 percent to end at MUR 30.50 and Sun Limited added 0.28 percent to close at MUR 36.10. Mauritius Oil Refinery Limited closed at MUR 26.00 after gaining 0.19 percent.
On the contrary, BLUELIFE Limited dropped 4.29 percent to settle at MUR 4.02 and ENL Land Limited faltered by 1.05 percent to end at MUR 47.00 and New Mauritius Hotels (Preference) dipped by 0.91 percent to end at MUR 10.90. LUX Island Resorts Limited traded at MUR 58.00 after losing 0.85 percent. Mauritius Development Investment Trust Limited plunged by 0.60 percent to conclude at MUR 4.97.
The DEMEX index closed at 199.56 points by adding 0.02 points or 0.01 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.067 billion after gaining MUR 4 million (relatively to MUR 49.063 billion recorded at the previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 1.076 million exchanged in 99,992 traded securities. FIDES Limited added 0.38 percent to trade at MUR 65.25.
